Porch with Full Height Glass in Essex

If you are considering installing a porch and want the maximum benefits, then why not install a porch with full height glass windows?

Advantages of Full Height Glass Porches

There are many benefits to installing a porch with full height glass:

  • The maximum amount of sunlight will be able to enter through the full height glass porch windows, to your household.
  • While standing inside your enclosed front porch, you will have a beautiful, clear view of the outside world.
  • Your house will stand out with this beautiful and elegant looking front porch.
  • This porch design will suit both back porches and front porches, while also providing space for you to store your shoes.

Invest in a Porch if you Plan to Sell your Home

If you are looking to sell your home in the future, then it is useful to know that a house with a porch will sell for more money, so long as the porch blends in with the house and is of a good quality.

What is also important when installing a front porch extension, is to make an impact on your buyers – the more beautiful and impressive your property looks, the more likely it will be that your home will sell. Never forget that first impressions count for a lot.

Planning Permission

Adding a full height glass porch to any external door of your house is considered to be permitted development, not requiring an application for planning permission, provided:

Porch with Full Height Glass Windows Mini Guide
  • The ground floor area (measured externally) would not exceed three square metres.
  • No part would be more than three metres above ground level (height needs to be measured in the same way as for a house extension).
  • No part of the porch would be within two metres of any boundary of the dwelling house and the highway.
Please note: The permitted development allowances described here apply to houses not flats, maisonettes or other buildings.

Building Regulations

Building a full height glass front porch at ground level and under 30 square metres in floor area is normally exempt from the need for building regulation approval. This is provided that glazing and any fixed electrical installations comply with the appropriate sections of building regulations.

For a porch with full height glass windows to be exempt from building regulations approval:

  • The front entrance door between the existing house and the new porch must remain in place
  • If the house has ramped or level access for disabled people, the porch must not adversely affect access.
